Since our founding over 20 years ago, HR leaders have joined SHRN via the Career Transition Group (CTG). This shared experience has provided a strong bond across our membership. In turn, the strength of networking and support across SHRN is unrivaled. Once we’ve landed our next roles, all of us in SHRN serve as allies to CTG members, helping them find similar success.
About CTG
CTG is:
- A very effectively run weekly networking group, Wednesday mornings 9:30 – 12 noon.
- Expertly facilitated by a certified coach
- Attended consistently by ~20-25 of your HR peers in transition (click here to see current member resumes)
- A confidential, candid exchange of info, high-energy and high-participation
- A source of powerful partnerships and lasting friendships.
What’s special about the CTG?
- We share job leads, weekly and day-to-day. Whatever the new or ongoing HR opportunities are across our region, we share the details, discuss the pros and cons, and keep track of them.
- We practice our elevator pitches, give open feedback, vent about the ups and downs of the job search, and support each other professionally and emotionally.
- We keep each other energized – and help each other LAND SOONER. The median length of our job searches was just 6 months in 2024, in an extremely challenging market for senior level roles.
Our Approach – and Member Expectations
We thrive on a foundation of trust, shared purpose, and mutual respect. Our goal is to support one another through job transitions, understanding that each member brings their unique pace, circumstances, and needs to their search.
To create an environment where all members benefit, CTG members uphold the following foundational values:
1. Abundance Mindset
We believe that success is not a zero-sum game. There are enough opportunities for all of us, and by openly sharing leads, knowledge, and support, we increase our collective chances of finding the right fit in our next role. When one of us succeeds, it reflects positively on the strength of our network. We operate with generosity, knowing that what we contribute to the group – whether it’s a lead, an introduction, or a perspective – strengthens the entire community.
2. Accountability
We take ownership of our job search and our role within the group. While the group provides support, motivation, and connections, each member is responsible for following through on commitments, pursuing opportunities, and respecting the trust placed in them by others. Accountability also means showing up prepared, whether that’s updating the group on your progress, following through on weekly commitments, or respecting the norms of our referral and networking practices.
3. Attendance
Consistency matters. Our group is most effective when each member shows up regularly, actively participates, and supports all other members. Attendance isn’t just about presence, it’s about engagement. Listening, sharing insights, and supporting one another creates a dynamic, valuable network. Members are expected to attend each week, with no more than three absences in a three-month period. Active engagement is essential—arrive on time, stay for the full 2.5-hour meeting, and remain present until all members have given their updates.
By embracing these foundations, we create a strong, collaborative environment where each member can navigate their job search with confidence and mutual support.
